Microsoftは、同社が自社開発のカスタムビルドLinuxカーネルをWindowsに搭載すると発表しました。
この実装は、Linux カーネルが Windows のコンポーネントとして初めて組み込まれ、最新の Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) -- WSL2 を支えるものです。WSL1 と同様に、WSL2 もユーザースペースのバイナリを提供するものではなく、Microsoft カーネルがユーザーが選択したユーザースペースとインターフェースします。インストールは Windows ストア経由 で行えますが、サイドロード することも カスタム配布パッケージ を通じて可能です。
カーネルは、Linux の最新安定版であるhttps://www.kernel.org/のバージョン4.19を基盤として初期に構築されます。また、WSL2での使用に合わせて結果得られるバイナリを最適化するローカルパッチも適用され、起動時間の短縮、メモリフットプリントの削減、およびサポート対象デバイスの最小限化が図られます。セキュリティについては、WSL カーネルはMicrosoft の CI/CD システムを使用してビルドされ、ユーザーには透明な Windows Update を通じて保守されます。"これは、Linux システム グループおよびマイクロソフト内の複数のチームによる長年の取り組みの集大成です。その成果を共有できることを嬉しく思っており、WSL を使用して皆さんがどのような新しい興味深い方法で活用されるかを楽しみにしています。"

Finally, the other way around, instead of waiting for Linux distro to come up with better UI that would fare well if you stack it up against Windows, why not bring all Linux distros up into windows, for it has been a very long time and year 2020 is closing by, but until now and despite the fact that there are lot of Linux distros and large linux communities around, no Linux
distro is able to come up with a better UI in terms of usability. They all fall short if you compare them with windows experience.
Thanks for this because I have been using WSL and it has been a great experience to run full Linux under windows, with this coming up version, a better experience Linux + windows is very exciting to anticipate for.
