HUAWEI MatePad 12 X (2026) Review
Microsoft has recently announced that it will no longer support its 11-year-old operating system, Windows XP, starting April of next year.
Starting April 8, 2014, Windows XP will no longer receive security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates from Microsoft. The Redmond-based company is advising consumers and businesses to upgrade to newer operating systems like Windows 7 and Windows 8 to be able to benefit from more frequent and more efficient security updates.
“While XP was one of the most popular operating systems in Microsoft’s history, it was not designed to handle the challenges of today, such as the increased exposure to cyber-attacks and demands for more data privacy, unlike our newer operating systems such as Windows 7 and 8,” says Mae Rivera-Moreno, Windows Client Business Lead of Microsoft Philippines. “An 11-year-old operating system can no longer address today’s business and technology needs nor security threats.”
According to Microsoft’s estimated data, there are 11.2 million PCs in the Philippines, 3.6 million are still running on Windows XP.

Unless Microsoft ends the support for it, people would still be using XP. I don’t agree that XP can’t handle today’s security threats — there’s Microsoft Security Essentials for that.

MSE is also part of the “security updates” given by Microsoft. I doubt they’ll continue to provide updates for it.
It’s the app developers themselves who’ll decide when to end support for winXP. Example, Mozilla (Firefox) will still support winXP since a huge chunk of their browser is installed on this OS. The same goes for other apps.
Majority of computer users are fine with whatever OS they have as long as their apps work. Users of 5-10 year old hardware wouldn’t waste their time upgrading their windows OS just to find their hardware crippled by the new OS.

You can install all the AV and firewalls you want but it won’t protect your ass from malware. I can get inside XP within 5 seconds using its infamous RPC exploits! MSE or not!

MSE is enough to take care of your computer’s security — provided that you practice safe surfing (and safe emailing) in the first place.
I’m using MSE and obviously I’m satisfied with it. Never had problems with malware or virus. Simply because I combine it with safe surfing in the first place.

Of course, its a marketing strategy to Microsoft. Almost all tech companies use the same strategy ‘unconsciously force’ consumer to buy their products. Everyone do the same with their computer hardware, Video cards release almost every quartlery a refresh to their GPU line and even smartphones do it on the same frequency.
This is not a new strategy guys, companies like these spend millions on marketing analyst to study and make profits out of them.
It’s basically how the consumerism works.

As per Microsoft’s support life cycle policy, 10 years lang ang minimum life and support na binibigay nila sa mga products na nirerelease nila at di exceptions dito ang XP. pero i think 11 million is not the real number… most internet cafe still use XP even penguin cafe’s (and to think its a linux’ logo but uses windows XP) coz app like metacafe isnt available for 7…

Ilan ba sa 3.6m ang talagang genuine?
April 2009 pa natapos ang Mainstream Support ng Microsoft sa XP. Extended Support na lang yung matatapos sa 2014.
At ang Extended Support ay available lang sa mga Commercial Customer.

IMHO Windows XP is one of the most stable OS of windows, next to Windows 98.
It doesn’t require high specs PC to run.
Anyway, there are cheaper windows 7 starter naman.

You are right in saying that the PC era is about to end. Even Mozilla is foreseeing the dominance of smartphones in the near future that is why they are creating the new Firefox OS targeted towards mobile phones. Sana malaunch ang Firefox OS soon sa Pinas.
