According to a report from Business Korea, Apple’s foldable iPhone is set to release in the latter half of next year.
The report also added that Apple will get the OLED panels for the device from Samsung Display. This suggests that South Korea has a clear advantage in their display technology with minimal creasing. It is also in Apple’s best interests to drive down costs while sustaining the premium quality of their offerings.
The foldable iPhone is expected to have a 7.8-inch OLED inner display with an aspect ratio similar to an iPad mini. It’s also rumored to have a 5.5-inch OLED external display.
These specs come from known leaker Digital Chat Station, who says the internal display is approximately 7.76-inches. The tip also says that it has a resolution of 2713 x 1920 pixels.
As for the cover screen, it’s 5.49-inches with a 2088 x 1442 resolution at 446 ppi. The leaker also mentioned that Apple will use an under-screen camera to make for a more seamless large-screen experience.
For pricing, the foldable iPhone is expected to retail between USD 2,100 and USD 2,300. The upcoming device is slated to be in direct competition with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line if ever.
This will be a developing story until an official announcement from Apple has been made. We’ll keep readers posted on updates to Apple’s upcoming foldable when they’re available.
