Google and HTC are in the final stages of an acquisition deal of the latter’s smartphone division, according to a Taiwanese publication.

Taiwan’s Commercial times have reported that the internet giant is in talks with HTC for a supposed acquisition of the company’s smartphone division, which is publicly known for also creating Google’s Pixel smartphones. CNBC reports this deal may have stemmed out from HTC’s supposed plan, back in August, to sell either their whole smartphone division or a part of it to compensate for losses incurred in the recent times. Google also had purchased Motorola back in 2011 and made a couple of smartphones with the brand such as the Nexus 6 before Lenovo took over in 2014.
Google and HTC have yet to comment on the alleged deal.
