HTC One X unboxed, in the flesh

This little white box greeted me when I arrived home this afternoon. I knew HTC Philippines was sending us something but I didn’t not expect it will arrive looking unconspicuously as this. Check out our unboxing photos of after the break.

The box of the HTC One X is relatively small and conservative considering the size of the phone. It’s almost the same size as the iPhone 4S considering that one is just 3.5″.

The handset’s pristine white color is evident right out of the box — the angelic-white, polycabonate body against a huge, curved and dark edge-to-edge display gives it that gorgeous, heavenly look.

The HTC One line-up (minus the One S) was officially launched in the Philippines a couple of weeks ago. It’s also been sold in stores since then (some with the Beats earphones, some with just a stock HTC earphones).

You can read about our first impression of the One X here.

One of the things that got me interested with the One X is the built-in camera. Some of the earlier photos that pitted it against the Nokia 808 Pureview showed great promise. Historically, HTC handsets don’t carry really great rear cameras so the One X should change that perception.

I’ve ran a number of early benchmarks on the handset and so far the numbers are very impressive. Will not share it until the final review as I am seeing some more firmware updates that are coming up which might change the performance afterwards.

The combination of Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0 UI can still be a bit confusing if you’re coming from Gingerbread (or even from the stock ICS alone) but a few hours of tinkering might help to get you more comfortable with the user interface.

So far, the HTC One X has one of the most impressive specs in the local market (at least on paper).

HTC One X specs:
4.7″ Super LCD 2 display @ 720×1280 pixels @ 312ppi
1.5GHz quad-core NVidia Tegra 3 processor
1GB RAM
32GB internal storage
HSPA+ 21Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
NFC
Bluetooth 3.0
8MP autofocus rear camera, 1080p
1.3MP front-facing camera, 720p
GPS w/ aGPS support
1800mAh Li-Polymer battery
Android 4.0 ICS
134.4 x 68.9 x 8.9mm

The suggested retail price of the One X is Php32,990USD 562INR 47,657EUR 535CNY 4,094 — almost the same price range as the previous HT Sensation line-up from last year. Since this is the first and only quad-core Android smartphone available locally, we could not make any relative comparison against other handsets.

Interestingly, the Asus Transformer Prime tablet which runs the same processor is also priced at Php32,995USD 562INR 47,665EUR 536CNY 4,095.

More on this once we get acquainted with the One X and share with you our full review. I’m not sure if HTC Philippines will also allow us to do that scary drop test they showed during the launch but we’d be glad if they said yes.

  1. Wooooww! eto pinagpipilian ko eh. Onex X, Motorola Razr, Iphone or yung Sony Xperia S. 32k? hmmm Mahal nyan considering kimstore is offering it at 35k but hey it have a solo beats with it i think its lower w/o the beats. hmmm.. I saw it in memoxpress the other day i fell inlove. magkatabi pa sila ng sensation XL. hmm. Got to think about it.

  2. i’ll pass, better buy a nikon dslr camera with the same price ^_^

  3. I got mine last weekend. Liking the speed and screen. Batt life maxes out around 15hrs for me with 3G on always-on. Coming from the Sensation on ICS, the rerouted controls can get confusing. Some shortcuts I’m used with have been moved hehe

  5. My very first HTC was HD2. Since then nagka trauma ako sa HTC! This one seems to be a redeemer though.

  6. 26.9k lang to sa widget city

  9. Nokia N808 na lang antayin ko sa May.

  10. I’d better buy Asus Transformer Prime. Although wala syang 3G capabilities (And I believe di na raw sila magrerelease ng ganon), I can use it for my studies and intensive gaming because of its speedy processor and sophisticated graphics… =)

  11. Nevermind the drop test. Battery test na lang please…? :)

  12. I bought this phone two weeks ago and the first unit I got had the flickering display issue so I immediately returned it and was able to have a replacement. The second unit I had does not have the flickering display issue but I discovered a bug when mail xchange is synced on the phone. Bluetooth and FM radio are not able to turn on. I informed HTC and few days after an OTA update came (1.28.707.10) which fixed the issue.

  13. I really wanted to get this phone but reports of the screen issues made me wait. I hope they fix it soon.

Pero pagdating sa apps, I think Apple still leads it by far. I know Iphone 5 will be coming. But I have no regrets getting the 4s. I won’t get the Iphone 5 bka may mga problem pa. I’ll get the next iteration after that.

  15. Great Phone indeed!!!

I just bought my HTC xe a couple of months ago kaya pass muna ako sa phone na to… maybe ung next flagship phone ng HTC after nito…

  16. wait for the Nokia Lumia 900. Already getting titles as the best smartphone in the market. Same price also i think

  17. Wa kwenta mga bro, nagch-chip yung ceramic coating nito.

  18. The One X is a very good phone. It’s better than the 4S I should say, based from this review and my experience. If you are an Apple FanBoy go with something Apple made, but if you’re really into business or productivity, go with Android. Yes, the App Store has more apps than Google Play. But Google Play is now improving. For me: simplicity-iPhone, complexity-Android.

  19. enya, huwag kang pikon. ang pikon talo. everybody has its own opinion. Bakit ka apektado, simple lang naman e:

IF YOU DON’T HAVE AN IPHONE, YOU DON’T HAVE AN IPHONE.

  20. Ang gagaling ng mga nagcocomment.. May SEO pa kasama.. hehe V :) Just Saying

  21. Not enough reason to be pikon at all nor to have an iPhone! I have an iPad2 & iPod touch 4G. I also have a Galaxy Note! I like Apple as much as I admire Android! I just dont like people who doesnt know how to read and pay attention! Sheer stupidity…

  22. isa lang ang masasabi ko.. ampogi.. haha.. well.. i’m still waiting for SONY’s quad core.. sana malupet dn.. pro kung wla pa dn by the end of the year, mag HTC one x nlng ako.. anyways, SGS3 sucks, iphone 5, i know it sucks too.. pro sa price lng cguro.. :) haha..

  23. to enya: I think ikaw ang stupid.you owned a HTC HD2 and according to you na-trauma ka then how come you keep on defending HTC.

May note ba na bawal mag-comment not related to the topic. wala naman di ba? ikaw ba ang may-ari ng site na ito. If not then you don’t have the right to tell somebody not to pose.

    Ikaw ang stupid!

  24. To kamote:

Hindi ibig sabihin you own an Iphone, wala ka ng alam sa gadget.

  25. To stupid bel: again, read & pay attention! But then again i should say twice is enough for a wise man. You never learn moron!

  26. htc one x or wait for next iphone upgrade?
