Huawei P9 Plus Video Review

The Huawei P9 Plus is the big brother of the Huawei P9, with a display measuring 5.5 inches compared to the 5.2 inches on the P9.

Aside from the display size, there are quite a number of differences and/or improvements between the two. We recommend reading our full review of the Huawei P9 since this article will tackle the highlights of the P9 Plus.

  • Super AMOLED display.

The 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display has a full HD with a pixel density of 401ppi. The screen looks pretty nice with rich and vivid colors, crisp, deep blacks and good outdoor visibility.

It’s not a big deal that Huawei is not putting a lot of premium on QHD resolution as the benefits do not outweigh the savings in battery efficiency.

  • More generous 4GB of RAM.

While the Huawei P9 already has 3GB of RAM, the P9 Plus came with a little bit more at 4GB. This helps with smoother operation and better multi-tasking.

The P9 Plus scored 95,637 in Antutu Benchmark compared to the 81,464 on the P9. This could be attributed to the additional memory or faster internal storage performance.

  • Larger 64GB internal storage.

The base storage of the Huawei P9 is 32GB while the P9 Plus comes with 64GB out of the box. If you need more space, the hybrid dual-SIM and microSD card tray supports an additional 128GB.

The 2nd SIM tray will have to make way for the microSD card when you do this.

  • Bigger battery capacity.

With a much bigger battery capacity, the Huawei P9 Plus offered a little longer battery life on a single full charge. We recorded good results in our PCMark Battery test with a time of 9 hours and 38 minutes at 50% brightness and 0% volume in airplane mode.

  • IR Blaster. While not really a significant feature to a lot of users, an IR blaster allows you to use it as a universal remote control for your home appliances.
