iMessage-style SMS reportedly available to Globe, TM users via Android Messages

Listen to article

Globe has apparently started a slow rollout of Rich Communication Services, or RCS, the new standard that aims to replace SMS and MMS, for select subscribers.

RCS, for the uninitiated, is an upgraded SMS standard for improved text and multimedia sharing. The nearest RCS comparison would be iMessage, Apple’s proprietary messaging app between iDevices. RCS can facilitate file sharing and it can allow users to read message receipts even in group chats. The newest version of Android Messages has now been found to display the option to enable “Chat Features,” but only for a number of Globe and TM subscribers. You can check and download the latest APK here to test this new feature.

Have you checked or updated your Android Messages app yet? Are you seeing the new enhanced messaging option? Feel free to sound off in the comments section below!

Editor’s Note: We have sought Globe Telecom for a statement regarding this report. We’ll keep you posted.

I find the color of my messages different from the usual one and when I saw the details, it says RCS. Sad thing is, it only happened to one person and it lasted 2 days.

if you are having trouble to use rcs or stuck at “excuse the wait” this is how you solve it this is based on my experience 1. uninstall/disable android messages 2. uninstall/disable carrier services (if you have it) 3. turn off your phone 4. remove sim card 5. turn on your phone 6. wait for your phone to turn on then put your sim back 7. install/enable android messages 8. open android messages then if it ask you to turn enhanced messaging/chat features below click not now 9. go to settings then go to chat features then enable it (must be on wifi or data) 10. if it go through then congrats you enabled rcs but if it is stuck again at “excuse the wait” then exit the app 11. install/enable carrier services 12. go back to android messages try to enable chat features again if it go through then congrats if not wait for 1 day to activate

goodluck!

It worked sa android one ko, nag disable lang ako ng carrier services and ni try ko ulit in-on ang chat features tapos gumana na siya.

Globe is not good in hiding secrets :D

“Philippines based, Globe Telecom also became one of the first operators to launch RCS in the Asia Pacific region this month.”
