iMessage-style SMS reportedly available to Globe, TM users via Android Messages

Globe has apparently started a slow rollout of Rich Communication Services, or RCS, the new standard that aims to replace SMS and MMS, for select subscribers.

RCS, for the uninitiated, is an upgraded SMS standard for improved text and multimedia sharing. The nearest RCS comparison would be iMessage, Apple’s proprietary messaging app between iDevices. RCS can facilitate file sharing and it can allow users to read message receipts even in group chats. The newest version of Android Messages has now been found to display the option to enable “Chat Features,” but only for a number of Globe and TM subscribers. You can check and download the latest APK here 11 to test this new feature.

Have you checked or updated your Android Messages app yet? Are you seeing the new enhanced messaging option? Feel free to sound off in the comments section below!

I find the color of my messages different from the usual one and when I saw the details, it says RCS. Sad thing is, it only happened to one person and it lasted 2 days.
