The new features include interactive widgets and the ability to share contact information or by simply placing two phones near each other.

Apple calls this ‘NameDrop’ where users select the exact phone numbers or email addresses they wish to share, and they can share them instantly along with their ‘Contact Poster’.

There’s also the ability to leave a voicemail or voice message when someone is unavailable, as well as a check-in feature in iMessage that allows friends to notify each other when they get home safely.

Speaking of getting home, Apple Maps users now have the ability to save offline maps. Simply save an area of a map to your iPhone and explore it offline. You can view information such as hours and ratings on place cards and receive turn-by-turn directions for driving, walking, cycling, or using public transportation.

In addition, iOS 17 includes a nightstand feature that works without the need for a MagSafe connector or dock, and a quirky feature that allows users to turn their images into live stickers in iMessage.
