OnePlus 5 and 5T receives Android 8.1 update

After receiving Android 8.0 Oreo around the end of 2017 and the start of 2018, OnePlus’ iconic 5 and 5T smartphones are now receiving the 8.1 update. The update arrived alongside Oxygen OS 5.1.0.

Apart from introducing Android 8.1, Oxygen OS 5.1.0 also brings these to the table:



  • Updated Android security patch to 2018-04
  • Added full-screen gesture support (Only 5T)

Gaming mode

  • Added new optimizations in gaming mode including power saving and pausing adaptive brightness


  • Added category tags in the search section of the app drawer
  • Auto name folders based on category

Again, as with Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, the update will arrive to a small number of people first, and will gradually reach the rest of the population. OnePlus is also encouraging users of previous versions of their OS to send in feedback through this link.
