OPPO Reno2 First Impressions

OPPO announced the Reno2 mid-range smartphone in August. It’s the successor to the Reno announced in April and sports a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 730G chipset, quad-rear cameras, and a pop-up front camera. Now that it is set to launch in the Philippines this month let’s do a quick tour of the device in our first impressions below.

Just like the Reno, the Reno2 boasts a full-screen display but with a slightly larger 6.5-inch screen size. It has a resolution of 2400 x 1080 for a pixel density of 401ppi. It still has an AMOLED screen, so you’ll get deep blacks and punchy colors. Protecting it is Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

Found on top is the pop-up shark-fin camera module that houses the 16MP F2.0 selfie camera. Placed by the edge of the frame is the earpiece.

On the left is the volume buttons, while on the right is the power/lock button and SIM card slot. They’re clicky, solid, and easy to reach since they’re placed near the center of the frame.

At the bottom are the loudspeaker, USB Type-C port, primary microphone, and 3.5mm audio port, which is good news for those who prefer wired headphones.

Found at the back and lined up in the center, is the quad-rear cameras consisting of the 48MP Sony IMX586 F1.7 main with OIS, 13MP F2.4 telephoto, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP mono/portrait lens. The cameras are flushed for a smooth and seamless feel.

The signature strip with OPPO’s badge with O-Dot is still here. Placed in the middle is the ‘Designed for Reno’ tag line.

Just like the original Reno, it’s premium thanks to the metal frame. The 3D curved back is covered by Gorilla Glass 5. OPPO’s website mentions three colors — Luminous Black, Sunset Pink, and Ocean Blue, but it seems like only the first two will be offered in the Philippines at launch.
