Samsung Galaxy J2 Core now in the Philippines, priced

Samsung has a new entry-level smartphone on the block, and it’s called the J2 Core.

Announced just a few months ago, the smartphone features Android Go right out of the box, and touts up to 11 hours of video playback with YouTube Go.

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core specifications:

  • 5.0-inch TFT display @ 540 x 960 resolution
  • 1.4GHz Samsung Exynos 7570 CPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage
  • expandable via microSD card up to 256GB
  • 8MP f/2.2 rear camera
  • 5MP f/2.2 front camera
  • 4G LTE
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby (SIM1 Locked to Smart/TNT/Sun)
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • GPS, Glonass, Beidou
  • microUSB
  • Android Oreo (Go Edition)
  • 2,600mAh battery
  • 143.4 x 72.1 x 8.9 mm
  • 154g

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is being sold in stores with a Php4,999 price tag, but this comes with a few caveats. It’s a Smart-exclusive prepaid phone, so you’ll get a bundled Smart Prepaid LTE SIM with added perks — free 1GB mobile data for the first three days, another 1GB in tow when you load Php100 worth of mobile load on the first three days, and free 350MB mobile data for every Php150 accumulated prepaid credits loaded onto the SIM until the first year of the SIM’s activation. As with other Smart-exclusive handsets, the first SIM tray is locked for the Smart network and only Smart, TNT, and Sun SIM cards can be used and unlocking the SIM1 tray to other networks may void your warranty.
