Samsung Galaxy Note7 officially announced!

Samsung has just announced their awaited flagship under the Note series — the Samsung Galaxy . They skipped with the Note6 to put the handset in the same page as the S7, so don’t think that Samsung doesn’t know how to count. What they do know is how to keep their best smartphone offering on top of  crop.

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 encapsulates the latest Samsung tech available. Beginning with the display, it has a 5.7-inch Curved Super AMOLED with Quad HD resolution or roughly 534ppi. It’s topped with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that is said to withstand a 1.6-meter drop onto rough surfaces. Inside the device is Samsung’s own Exynos 8890 Octa chipset packing four 2.3 GHz Mongoose and four 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 CPUs. It’s paired with a Mali-T880 MP12 GPU, 4GB of RAM, and a staple 64GB of expandable storage.

The camera is still the impressive 12MP Dual Pixel sensor complete with phase-detection autofocus, optical image stabilization, and a bright f/1.7 aperture. The front camera is not forgotten with its 5MP f/1.7 shooter good for low-light selfies.

Three things are new about the Note7. First, apart from the heart-rate sensor and fingerprint scanner, Samsung threw in another — an iris scanner. Hence the name, the sensor uses the user’s pupils for added security. Second, the Note7 welcomes the USB Type-C port making it the first Samsung handset to sport the said connector. Third, it’s now IP68-certified so encounters with liquid is not a problem for the handset. Lastly, the S Pen also gets an upgrade with a smaller 0.7mm tip with improved sensitivity of 4096 pressure levels, 70mm latency and a 360Hz scan rate.

Since the Galaxy Note7 now has a new USB Type-C port, Samsung has also released a new Gear VR headset for the Note7. Good news is it still supports previous devices with micro-USB ports.
