Listen to article

Samsung has unveiled a 50MP image sensor for smartphones that improves image quality in low-light. Dubbed as ISOCELL GN1, the image sensor is the first from the brand to combine Dual Pixel and Tetracell technologies.

The ISOCELL GN1 adds dual-pixel phase detection autofocus to detect and focus swiftly on moving and still subjects even in low-light conditions, as well as Tetracell technology for doubling the pixel size and increasing light sensitivity up to four times for taking brighter 12.5 MP photos. Through these features, the ISOCELL GN1 image sensor can capture sharper images even in environments with poor lighting.

In addition, Samsung also brings in the following video recording features to the ISOCELL GN1: Smart-ISO, real-time HDR for processing multiple exposures simultaneously on a scene, gyro-based electronic image stabilization (EIS), and support to 8K video recording at 30fps.

Samsung shares that it will start the production of the said image sensor this May 2020.
