Samsung releases new ad taunting Apple to ‘Get the Message’ and adopt RCS

Listen to article

Google and Android have been leading the charge with their ‘Get the Message‘ campaign, urging Apple to embrace RCS as a messaging standard.

Now, Samsung jumps on board with a new ad, putting pressure on Apple to disrupt iPhones exclusivity.

The video in question tackles the ‘blue’ and ‘green bubbles’ divide that has generated buzz in the tech community.

In the clip, an upset couple grapples with their uncertain future due to their parents’ disapproval of them being together.

In a clever twist, the person using a Samsung phone asks, “What did green ever do to them? We’re bubbles too,” addressing ‘Juliet’ who is likely using an iPhone.

The presented issue highlights the disparity between Android and iPhone users, with Android users often being looked down upon due to SMS/MMS messages appearing as green bubbles on iPhones, unlike the blue bubbles on iMessage users.

This situation is attributed to Apple’s failure to support RCS (Rich Communications Services), which would enable iPhone users to receive the same content regardless of the operating system, thereby bridging the gap between the two platforms.

Of course, Apple has been rather dismissive when it comes to acknowledging RCS.

During a Recode conference, Apple executive Tim Cook playfully quipped, “Buy your mom an iPhone,” when an attendee asked if Apple would support RCS to end the communication hurdles between iPhone and Android.

Samsung has not provided any additional comments alongside the video. However, it’s evident that both Samsung and Google are unyielding in their efforts to drive RCS adoption—emphasizing the advantages it can offer in terms of a more secure and unified messaging experience for all users, irrespective of their choice of brand.

This is largely a non-issue in most countries except US.
Everywhere else, people use third party apps like WhatsApp, FB Messenger, WeChat, Line, Viber, etc.
And really, the only reason they’re pushing for RCS is because of Apple’s overwhelming dominance in the US teen market (basically their future customers).
