Samsung has announced that its Samsung Messages app will be discontinued in July 2026.

Samsung has announced the end of service to their Samsung Messages app. The brand encourages their users to switch to Google Messages.
The move aims to standardize messaging on Android. Samsung suggests Google Messages for their features such as RCS support, improved spam protection and AI-powered tools.
Samsung notes that devices running Android 11 or older will not be affected. However, newer devices, such as models starting from the Samsung Galaxy S26, will no longer support downloading Samsung Messages.
Some limitations will apply to older hardware. For example, smartwatches running Tizen OS may lose full conversation syncing but basic messaging will remain available.
Users can switch to Google Messages through in-app prompts or by manually setting it as the default messaging app via the Play Store.
