Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy XR, a new mixed reality headset that directly competes with Apple’s Vision Pro, but at a much lower price. The Galaxy XR will retail for $1,799, almost half the $3,499 price tag of Apple’s device.

Built in partnership with Google and Qualcomm, the Galaxy XR combines virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in one compact headset. It runs on a customized Android system, uses Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, and promises smoother performance and longer battery life compared to earlier models.
Samsung says the Galaxy XR aims to make extended reality more accessible to consumers and developers alike. It features 4K micro-OLED displays for each eye, hand-tracking capabilities, and full compatibility with Android apps designed for immersive experiences.
The launch of the Galaxy XR marks Samsung’s return to the mixed-reality market after years of focusing on smartphones and wearables. It also signals the company’s push to take a bigger slice of the fast-growing extended reality industry, which Apple re-entered this year with the Vision Pro.
Industry analysts say Samsung’s pricing strategy could attract more first-time XR users, positioning the Galaxy XR as a more practical option for those who want premium AR and VR experiences without spending as much.
