Listen to article

The Canon EOS C80 has been unveiled. This camera was designed for filmmakers who need a full-featured camera with a compact body.

It has a lightweight design suitable on drones, gimbals, or tripods. It’s ergonomically built with a new handle assembly. The Multi-Accessory Shoe can be found situated above the LCD panel with its joystick providing easy control and menu navigation.

The camera features a 6K full-frame, back-illuminated CMOS sensor with triple-base ISO. This allows the device to capture images in a wide range of lighting conditions. The camera offers base ISOs of 800, 3200, and 12,800 to make use of its full dynamic range.

The camera also features Canon’s latest Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus coined as Dual Pixel AF II. The back-illuminated stacked sensor’s positioning provides users with great efficiency with capturing light. This widens the area of the sensor that’s used for autofocusing.

Plus, the sensor empowers fast readout speed as well as amazing 4K image quality from 6K oversampling.

The EOS C80 also adds 12G-SDI output, which enables uncompressed transfer of your video signal via cable connection. The camera’s design includes a suite of other interfaces like HDMI, mini-XLR audio input, time code, built-in Wi-Fi, and Ethernet.

The internet connectivity enables the camera to be controlled remotely via IP-based XC Protocol with Canon’s Remote Camera Control Application. Notably, this is available for free on Canon’s website in the United States.

The Canon EOS C80 can shoot up to 6K 30P in Cinema RAW Light. Other recording options include the standard XF-AVC codec, which records in 10-bit 4:2:2 with 6K sensor oversampling. This makes for richer details and smooth imagery without the need for cropping from the sensor.

Additionally, autofocus is enabled when recording in slow or fast motion at up to 4K 120P. The camera also has two more recording codecs with XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S.

The Canon EOS C80 is priced at USD 5,499 (PHP 310,000), slated to be available in November 2024.
