Some people go to the extremes to buy things for themselves, but nothing is more extreme than what this Chinese couple did who apparently auctioned off their own offspring and went on to buy an expensive pair of sneakers and an iPhone.
This ruthless couple, identified only by the media as Mr. Teng and Ms. Zhang, is facing criminal charges in Shanghai for their sinister deed. In their defense, the couple claims that “We did not give the baby away for money but in order to give it more security.”
However, the prosecuting panel isn’t buying into their alibi and says that they have enough evidence to believe that the young couple did spend the proceeds (CNY50,000 or Php353,177) on their lavish online shopping spree. Their plans is to use the unemployed couple’s bank records to back up their speculations and eventually put the two behind bars.
Sadly, this ain’t the first time that China made the headlines for such an atrocious act. Two years ago, a Chinese teenager named Wang Shangkun sold his kidney to buy an iPad 2 and a laptop. Luckily, justice was served to the group of men behind the crime, and we’re hoping that the same fate will befall this couple along with their accomplices.
