Google just recently had its Pixel event where it officially announced its newest Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones.
Both phones will be powered by the Google Tensor G3 processor with it now coming with 7 years worth of software updates 20 including OS upgrades, security updates, and feature drops.
Moreover, they’re also the first pair of smartphones that will come with the newly launched Android 14.
The Google Pixel 8 features a 6.2-inch Actua display that gives up to 2000 nits peak brightness and has an adaptive refresh rate of 60-120Hz.
The Google Pixel 8 Pro on the other hand sees a 6.7-inch Super Actua display that can max out at 2400 nits of peak brightness and can adjust its refresh rate all the way up to 120Hz and all the way down to 1Hz.
The Google Pixel 8 Pro also sees a new temperature sensor to scan objects and get its temperature reading. They’re also currently in the works with the FDA to enable it to take your own temperature and save it to Fitbit.
With Pixels having always been known for their cameras, the Pixel 8 has an updated main camera and a new ultrawide lens that enables Macro Focus.
The Google Pixel 8 Pro now features a bigger ultrawide lens to deliver better Macro Focus and a telephoto lens that can take 10x photos at optical quality.

Software Updates
The camera app has also been redesigned to segregate controls for both photo and video while the Pixel 8 Pro will have access to Pro Controls such as shutter speed, ISO, and 50MP photos.
The main headlining software feature was what Google calls “Best Take” where it’s mainly used in group photos where it will take a series of photos to get everyone’s best look and merge the best looks of each person.
Previously Google had a feature called Magic Eraser, but they’ve now introduced “Magic Editor” letting users reposition and resize objects or use presets to make the background pop.
More so, they’ve also introduced “Audio Magic Eraser” which lets you reduce distracting sounds in videos.
The Pixel 8 Pro will also get “Video Boost” later this year to adjust color, lighting, stabilization, and graininess to take stunning true-to-life videos.
They’ve also integrated AI features with “Summarize” to help users summarize a webpage and even read aloud or translate webpages to listen on the go.
Its speech-to-text feature has also improved with no longer recognizing any pauses in speech or any “ums” on the transcript.
They’ve also introduced Call Screen to help significantly reduce the number of spam calls received by silently answering calls on your behalf to get the purpose of the caller for you.
It also helps separate calls and will soon suggest contextual replies for you to quickly respond to simple calls like appointments and confirmations.
