Google has officially confirmed that it won’t be making new tablets anytime soon. The company launched the Pixel Tablet in 2023, but since then, there’s been little movement on the product line.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Google admitted it’s pausing its efforts in the tablet space “until it figures out a meaningful future for the category.” The report adds that, for now, Google sees smartphones as the main device people rely on.
This decision comes even as competitors like Apple and Samsung continue to release new tablets, with iPads and Galaxy Tabs still selling well in different markets. Unlike phones, tablets are often used at home rather than carried around, which makes Google’s reasoning a bit odd.
For users hoping to see another Pixel-branded tablet, it looks like there’s nothing to expect from Google at least in the near future. If you’re looking for an Android tablet today, options from different OEMs remain the most accessible from OPPO, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Samsung, etc.
