HONOR to demo AI deepfake detection at MWC Barcelona, rollout set for April 2025

Listen to article

As the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona approaches, HONOR has confirmed that it will demo its AI deepfake detection technology along with other AI features under its so-called “HONOR Alpha Plan”.

This feature essentially identifies deepfake content, and apparently, ‘deep faked’ video calls in real-time.

First introduced at the MWC Shanghai last year, HONOR’s AI deepfake detection technology uses on-device advanced AI algorithms to detect subtle inconsistencies that the human eye might miss.

This includes pixel-level flaws, issues with border compositing, and anomalies in facial features or video frame transitions. When it identifies manipulated content, the system sends an alert, helping users avoid potential safety risks.

Recent reports claim that HONOR will release this feature in April 2025 and that it will arrive first on the HONOR Magic7 Pro.

HONOR’s move is part of its broader effort to tackle the growing problem of digital manipulation. Companies like Adobe, Arm, Intel, Microsoft, and Truepic are collaborating on standards for verifying digital content authenticity through initiatives like the Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA).

Microsoft has also introduced tools to counter deepfakes, including a face-blurring feature for images uploaded to Copilot. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite NPU offers local deepfake detection while maintaining user privacy with the help of McAfee’s AI models.

We should be able to see HONOR’s deepfake detection feature in action starting March 2nd at the MWC Barcelona.
