Huawei Mate 40 Pro beats Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra in DXO rankings

Garnering 140 points for the photos, the Mate 40 Pro “a great tradeoff between texture and noise, with good detail and low levels of noise in images captured across all light levels.” According to DXOMark’s review, the smartphone has managed to produce sharp and detailed images, thanks to its ” accurate autofocus system that locks on without delay when shooting with the primary camera.” The Mate 40 Pro also does a good job in portrait mode, creating “a natural-looking bokeh simulation that doesn’t look far off from something a DSLR and fast lens could capture.” Its ultra-wide camera has the same limitations as previous Huawei smartphones. However, its image quality is “generally excellent.”

The smartphone also is impressive in terms of dynamic range, “providing good highlight retention even in low light.” This makes the device the best choice for low-light photography.

“It’s not quite the best, but one of the best for tele-zoom, and while ultra-wide shooters have to make do with a narrower field of view than on many competitors, the overall image quality of the ultra-wide camera leaves few reasons to complain. It’s also the best device we have tested to date for Video, thanks to excellent noise control, effective stabilization, and smooth autofocus adaptation, making it the currently most versatile smartphone for any kind of mobile visual content creators.”

With that being said, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro also gained the new top score for a smartphone’s selfie camera, generally delivering pretty much good images across the board. It garnered a total of 104 points, which is just one point above the Huawei P40 Pro.

“…the new Huawei deservedly takes the number one spot in our DXOMARK Selfie ranking, leaving other devices with more complex multi-cam setups and autofocus systems behind. Outstanding scores in both Photo and Video categories make it an easy choice for selfie still and video shooters alike.”
