0:01Ever wondered what kind of phone can
0:03capture DSLR or mirrorless like camera
0:05quality from like 50 m away?
0:12[Music]
0:13What about macro photography as if from
0:16a dedicated 100 mm macro lens that fits
0:18inside our pockets? Is it wizardry?
0:22Nope. It’s just Huawei’s most powerful
0:24mobile photography duos yet. the Huawei
0:27Pur Ultra and the Pur Pro. The Pur Ultra
0:32sports the world’s first switchable dual
0:35telephoto camera, and the Pur macro
0:38telephoto camera gives us DSLR or even
0:41mirrorless level detail from as close as
0:445 cm. Both units feature fine-tuned 1in
0:48camera sensors, delivering amazing
0:50dynamic range, sharpness, and
0:53improvements in low light.
0:55Want to know more? Let’s get into it.
1:05The Pura series has always had a design
1:08first philosophy. And with the Pura 80
1:11Ultra, we get a phone that doesn’t just
1:14look premium, it’s also a total head
1:16turner. I mean, just look at it. We get
1:19this glorious glow finish in either
1:22prestige gold like we have here or
1:24golden black which give off this shiny
1:27chromatic vibe highlighted by the
1:29sunburst camera ring better known as the
1:32forward symbol which was first
1:34introduced with last year’s Pur 7
1:37series. This year’s design language is
1:39inspired by the craftsmanship of fine
1:42jewelry and makes this phone feel more
1:45like a luxury accessory than a piece of
1:47tech at times. On the other hand, the
1:49Pur 80 Pro takes a more refined look
1:52with its glazed texture design.
1:55Available in red, black, and white like
1:57we have here. This Pura 80 Pro is
2:00protected by second gen loon glass
2:02while the Ultra gets second gen crystal
2:06armor loon which is said to be 25
2:09times tougher and 16 times more scratch
2:12resistant with their predecessors. And
2:15to prove just how durable these guys
2:17are, let’s go for the Ultra. I’ll be
2:20performing a simple key scratch test
2:22just like last year. All right, we’re
2:25scratching up the back.
2:30Damn. Okay.
2:32Boom. Flawless. Just like that. Okay.
2:36Let’s do the front, too. And I’ll be
2:38taking off the screen protector that was
2:40pre-installed with the phone. God dang
2:43it. That’s actually a pretty nice screen
2:44protector. Sorry, Huawei. Display
2:47scratching.
2:50I hate to do that on purpose. Okay,
2:53let’s wipe. And just as flawless as the
2:57back. That’s what you get with
2:59Loon, second gen armor. So, it’s
3:03safe to say that they’re both just as
3:05durable as last year, maybe even a
3:07little bit more durable. Both phones are
3:09also IP68 and 69 certified, meaning they
3:13can survive an accidental dunk in the
3:15toilet bowl. Anyways, with that out of
3:18the way, let’s head straight into the
3:20camera systems. Starting with the
3:22ultimate zoom beast, the Pura 80 Ultra.
3:26First of all, the Ultra features a 1 in
3:29ultra lighting HDR main camera sensor
3:31with 16 stops of dynamic range, which by
3:35technicality on paper can rival
3:37professional cinema cameras, which only
3:40reach around 16.5 stops in general.
3:44Either way, this is by far the highest
3:46dynamic range we can get from a
3:48smartphone today. We get beautifully
3:51exposed shots even in the most
3:53challenging lighting conditions like
3:55shooting Watt Arun and cityscapes at
3:57night or quick portraits of harshly
4:00backlit subjects. But why are we
4:02referring to it as the ultimate zoom
4:05beast? Well, it features the industry’s
4:07first switchable dual telephoto camera,
4:10which means instead of two separate
4:13lenses with inconsistent image quality,
4:16Huawei managed to engineer a single
4:18module that houses two optical zoom
4:21levels, which is 3.7x and 9.4x,
4:25both using the same 1 over 1.28 in
4:28sensor, which is this big circle over
4:32here. That’s massive for a smartphone
4:34telephoto lens. This results in super
4:37consistent colors, brightness, and
4:39clarity even when you jump between zoom
4:42levels. We really put it to its paces
4:44when we tested it during this Gilas
4:46basketball game from about 50 m away.
4:49And our 10x zoom samples don’t really
4:51look like they were taken from how far
4:53we actually were, as you guys can
4:55already see on your screens. During the
4:57game, we were also able to test
4:59snapshot, a feature that assures us we
5:01can get a nice sharp and infocus image
5:04when capturing fast-paced action like in
5:07sports or this basketball game. In
5:10general, we were very impressed with how
5:12true to life the colors were in low
5:13light stills. It’s amazing how easy it
5:16is to get a really nice image with such
5:18little effort, whether of people, pets,
5:21architecture, or even whatever it is we
5:23had for lunch. The Pur 80 Pro, on the
5:27other hand, is pretty much a carryover
5:29of the Ultra model minus the extra
5:32periscopic telephoto sensor. Or, in
5:35other words, the telephoto sensor on the
5:38Pro is a single camera module compared
5:40to the Ultra’s Duel. It shares the same
5:431 in ultra lighting camera sensor that
5:46also gets a mechanically adjusting
5:48aperture of f1.6 to f4. Again, that’s
5:51for both of these guys. This large
5:54sensor size and variable aperture on the
5:56main camera helps deliver bright,
5:59noise-free night photos without the
6:01usual grain or blur. But despite the
6:03lack of the second telephoto camera on
6:06the Ultra, we still get super macro
6:08photography with the Pro model, like we
6:11can still literally zoom into tiny
6:13textures like water droplets, flower
6:15petals, and still get super clean,
6:17vibrant, and sharp images. And yes,
6:21video quality looks equally cinematic
6:23with deep contrast, smooth exposure
6:26rolloff, and no harshly blown out
6:28highlights, which can also be said for
6:31the images as well. Ultrawide sensor
6:34performance on both phones can leave a
6:36little more desired when compared to
6:38shots taken with the main or telephoto
6:41cameras, especially in low light. But it
6:44is to be expected and the images
6:46produced are still pretty good
6:47regardless, just not as good as the main
6:50and telephoto camera sensors. Running on
6:53EMUI 15, both devices offer a suite of
6:57AI powered features, but in general, we
7:00get some visual and UI updates like the
7:03drop-own menu has been tweaked to look
7:05more modern with sections we can also
7:07easily customize. For AI features, some
7:09of our favorites come in the form of AI
7:12remove, which allows us to erase
7:13unwanted objects or things from our
7:16photos and images. And of course, the
7:19Huawei app gallery has never been more
7:22optimized than ever. Google apps and
7:24even games we can’t find in the app
7:26gallery natively can all be easily
7:28installed with no major issues. The
7:31software experience with EMUI5 feels a
7:35lot snappier than before. UI animations
7:37are smooth and non-native app gallery
7:40apps work with little to no qualms from
7:42us here in the studio. Now, before we
7:45cap things off, there’s one more thing
7:47we need to highlight, and that’s
7:49Huawei’s extrude display, which is found
7:52on either model. Whether we’re viewing
7:54photos, editing videos, or just watching
7:57content, end users will appreciate their
7:596.8 in LTPO OLED display panels with
8:02widevine level one certifications. Peak
8:05brightness goes up to 3,000 nits with an
8:08adaptive refresh rate that goes from 1
8:10herz to 120 Hz depending on usage. But
8:14what continues to impress us since like
8:18the P60 series are their dual stereo
8:22speakers. And this year’s Pura 80 models
8:26are probably just as good if not better.
8:29They get very very loud and the sound
8:32stage always feels full and immersive
8:34with a lot of clarity. In my honest to
8:38god opinion, both the Pura 80 Ultra and
8:40Pur Pro most likely have the best
8:43sounding smartphone speakers in 2025.
8:47No question. And so we need to answer
8:50the question, who are these phones for?
8:53Well, the Huawei Pur Ultra is made for
8:56content creators, people who love a
8:58sharp and clear zoom range, and anyone
9:01who wants a device that can achieve
9:04almost cinema quality results right from
9:07their pockets. It truly earns the title
9:11ultimate zoom beast in 2025. The Huawei
9:15Pura 80 Pro, on the other hand, is for
9:18the same demographic of end users, but
9:21can do without the extra zoom range at a
9:23lower cost. Whichever one you guys
9:25choose, you’ll be getting a flagship
9:28camera system with a beautiful design
9:30and premium features across the board.
9:33At the time we recorded this video, we
9:36have yet to get official Philippine
