The HUAWEI Watch 5 has been launched with a new design, improvements to health monitoring, and the new X-Tap sensor. For those wondering, the sensor is designed to simplify health tracking and enable quicker interactions.

The watch leverages premium materials, including spherical sapphire glass and aerospace-grade titanium. It also uses 904L stainless steel and 316L stainless steel across different color and strap choices.
It comes in two sizes: a 46mm model with a 1.5-inch AMOLED display and a 42mm model with a 1.38-inch screen. Both, however, offer the same 3000-nit peak brightness and a resolution of 466 x 466.
The X-Tap sensor can be found on the side of the watch. It integrates an ECG sensor, PPG sensor, and a 10-level tactile sensor. HUAWEI claims that it allows real-time fingertip blood oxygen (SpO2) measurements in an estimate of 10 seconds.
It can even perform a “Health Glance” scan, which generates a summary of eleven (11) health metrics under a minute. The company also added that fingertip signals used by the sensor provides greater accuracy and responsiveness compared to traditional bottom-mounted sensors.
Another feature the watch has is gesture recognition, powered by a dedicated neural processing unit. Users can control calls, music playback, alarms, and the remote camera shutter by double-tapping/sliding their thumb and index finger.
Notably, the gestures are optimized when paired with HUAWEI smartphones. Users can also enjoy up up a hundred workout modes with enhanced tracking accuracy with the new Sunflower Positioning System.
For battery, performance varies on usage. The watch supports wireless charging with the in-box second generation SuperCharger.
The 46mm model is good for up to 4.5 days in standard and 11 days in battery saver mode. Meanwhile, the 42mm model has an uptime of 3 days with standard use and up to a week in battery saver.
Connectivity options include eSIM support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band GNSS, and NFC. Other features include 5 ATM water resistance and IP69 rating.
The HUAWEI Watch 5 42mm is priced at EUR 449.99 (~PHP 28,000). As for the 46mm model, it’s available for EUR 649.99 (~PHP 40,000).
HUAWEI’s latest wearable is currently available in Europe. We’ll get back to readers once more information is available in terms of its Philippine release since this is a developing story.
