iOS 4.0.2 patches iPhone 4 Jailbreak, JailbreakMe PDF exploit; Redsn0w, Ultrasn0w compatible

Apple has released iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3G/S, iPod Touch, and iOS 3.2.2 for the iPad which, as promised, comes with the necessary fix to plug the jailbreakme PDF exploit we mentioned a while back.

Unfortunately, while it does manage to address that security hole, it also means the end for the convenient web-based iPhone 4 jailbreak we’ve grown to love. On a good note, however, it’s confirmed that redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 can jailbreak this latest firmware on the iPhone 3G which means this might work as an iOS 4.0.2 jailbreak for other iPhone versions as well. We’ll just have to wait for an announcement from the Dev Team about this.

Another bit of good news is that Apple still hasn’t changed the baseband making it still unlockable via the latest build of ultrasn0w. Apple may have put a stop to Jailbreakme.com, but as evidenced by the success rate of redsn0w, they certainly haven’t put a stop to the jailbreak train.

Just remember, when you use redsn0w, you should point to the official iOS 4 firmware, not iOS 4.0.2, and you should connect your iPhone to your PC/Mac while it’s off.
