The Metro Manila Council headed by Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez says that Metro Manila mayors have unanimously voted to downgrade to Alert Level 1 starting March 1.
In a meeting held Tuesday night (February 22), the mayor said that they will be sending a recommendation to the Metro Manila Development Authority or MMDA to downgrade the Alert Level from the current Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 1. The mayors have already submitted their recommendation to the MMDA.

In an earlier report, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that Alert Level 1 will likely be considered as the new normal scenario until the state of public health emergency is lifted in the country. He said that the public must still continue observing minimum health standards.

Other government agencies such as the DILG said that they had misgivings about downgrading the alert level in Metro Manila due to risks of another COVID-19 surge.
According to OCTA Research, the current positivity rate of Metro Manila is only at 4.9%, well within the WHO’s ideal positivity rate of 5%.
