On July 16, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the government aims to finish the Metro Manila Subway project by 2028. This is set to be the Philippines’ first underground railway system, spanning from Pasay City to Valenzuela City.

After conducting inspection, Marcos said ‘Sana matapos natin ito hanggang sa Valenzuela. Baka puwede nang in-inaugurate sa 2028’.

Macros credits the knowledge gained from Japan as the project helps Filipino engineers learn from the collaboration. ‘We look forward to the day when we can say nasakyan na natin ‘yung subway sa Pilipinas,’ he added.

The Metro Manila Subway is planned to be a 33-kilometer railway system. It’s expected to cut travel time between Valenzuela and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Pasay) from 2 hours to 40 minutes. It will have 17 stations in operation, serving up to 519,000 passengers daily.
