Netflix is currently rolling out a new tool to better monitor what their kids are watching and conducts a global test of Family Profile that allows subscribers to customize family-friendly movies and shows.

Dubbed as Kids Activity Report, the new feature gives a breakdown of the kind of programs their child is watching. This includes top themes, characters, and show recommendations that are based on their kid’s interests. Do note that the feature is separate from the existing Parental Controls.

According to a report, emails have been sent out to Netflix subscribers with Kids Profile, informing parents that they can activate the feature and join in. Parents may deactivate the report anytime.

The feature also has personalized activities and trivia based on Netflix programs or characters that parents can give to their children who are stuck at home.

Netflix is also rolling out the global test for Family Profile. Compared to Kids and regular profiles, the Family Profile shows TV series and movies that people selected as family-friendly in one profile. The Family Profile uses ratings which then inputs various titles under the recommended shows and programs based on individual interests of various profiles of a Netflix account. Only movies with a PG-13 and TV shows with a TV-14 rating are allowed to be watched on the Family Profile. Content with ratings beyond PG-13 and TV-14 won’t appear under the Family Profile. However, Netflix said that it may allow subscribers to add titles beyond the mentioned ratings if the demand is high.

The Kids Activity Report rolls out in select countries while the Family Profile will be available globally as part of the test.
