Listen to article

OpenAI has just unveiled GPT-4o mini, a cost-efficient yet powerful intelligence model. This was developed with the goal of making the GPT-4 engine more affordable.

At the time of writing, the GPT-4o mini’s price is set at 15 cents per 1 million input tokens. It’s also up for 60 cents per 1 million output tokens, which is cheaper in comparison to GPT-3.5 Turbo.

OpenAI also noted that the GPT-4o mini has more to offer when put up against other models. It surpasses Gemini Flash, Claude Haiku, and GPT-3.5 Turbo in benchmarks and provides results that equal GPT-4o.

As per the OpenAI’s blog, the model focuses on textual intelligence and multimodal reasoning. Further, it excels at reasoning tasks like mathematics, coding, etc.

The engine offers users a context window of 128K tokens with timely information dating back to October 2023. In addition, it will provide support for audio, images, and video in the future.

GPT-4o mini is currently under implementation, replacing GPT 3.5 in ChatGPT Free, ChatGPT Plus, and ChatGPT Team subscriptions. Meanwhile, enterprise clients will be given access to the model starting next week.
