Samsung has recently announced its latest mid-range, 5G-ready chipset for smartphones, the Exynos 1080.
The Exynos 1080 5G is the first mobile processor built in a 5nm EUV technology. It is an octa-core CPU that consists of four Cortex-A78 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores. It is mated with a Mali-G78 MP10 GPU. Designed to support on-device AI, it enables applications like virtual assistants and AR to process information directly on the device through its neural processing unit (NPU) and digital signal processor (DSP).
The chipset also supports FHD+ displays with up to 144 Hz refresh rate, WQHD+ display with up to 90Hz refresh rates, HDR10+, LPDDR4x and LPDDR5 RAM standards, UFS 3.1 storage, up to six camera sensors, up to 200MP single camera, 32MP + 32MP dual cameras, and 4K video recording at 60 fps. In terms of connectivity, the processor has an integrated 5G modem that works with mmWave and sub-6GHz standards (up to5.1Gbps). It also features WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
According to a report from GSMArena, the Exynos 1080 will initially debut on vivo smartphones. Smartphones that will adopt the chipset are expected to arrive in early 2021.
