SKY has recently partnered with the Department of Education’s regional divisions for airing DepEd TV programs on cable. This initiative aims to strengthen distance learning and reach other students who do not have an internet connection.
Under the agreement, SKY will give DepEd TV a dedicated channel on cable. This will air lessons per week, covering the essential learning competencies prescribed by the government. It will be broadcasted in public schools located in Baguio, Laoag, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, General Santos, and Zamboanga.
Through the DepEd TV programs, the department aims to present lecture classes by carefully selected broadcaster-teachers in the country. Teachers underwent a series of training with renowned broadcasters of major local networks to deliver interactive class episodes effectively for students. Among the trainers were ABS-CBN’s Karen Davila, Kim Atienza, Jaque Manabat, Abner Mercado, and Korina Sanchez.
SKY will also provide a SKY Fiber connection to 32 public schools nationwide for online classes.
SKY’s previous initiative in education was airing lessons in Filipino, Math, Science, English, and Araling Panlipunan for the First Quarter from Kinder to Grade 10 and the Alternative Learning System through Knowledge Channel. As the school year began last October 5, Knowledge Channel has been airing the same video lessons for week 1 of the First Quarter.
