Snapchat adds Group Streaks and Infinite Retention features

Listen to article

Snapchat has rolled out two new features called Infinite Retention and Group Streaks. Both are slated to roll out globally starting this month.

Infinite Retention lets users keep entire chat histories instead of saving messages one by one. The feature can be turned on for any conversation, and both participants will be notified when it is enabled.

Either user can also choose to turn it off. Snapchat confirmed that Infinite Retention had been in testing since early 2024 and is now rolling out to all users.

The second feature, Group Streaks, expands the original streak system beyond one-on-one chats. Instead of relying on two people, multiple friends can now contribute snaps to keep the streak active.

If a group streak breaks, users have up to seven days to restore it. This grace period is not available for individual streaks.

According to Snapchat, these updates are based on community feedback. Many users requested the ability to save chats permanently and maintain streaks with groups.
