Uber and Grab Drivers can now face same sanctions as delinquent taxi drivers

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has changed the rules affecting transport network companies (TNCs). Uber and Grab drivers now have the same sanctions as taxi drivers when they commit transport violations.

Under a memorandum circular that the LTFRB adopted on Oct. 23, transport network companies (TNCs) are now considered as transport providers, which means they are now subject to the laws and sanctions imposed towards transport providers. Penalties to taxi drivers who refuse to take in passengers will now be applied to Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) drivers who cancel bookings. Apart from this, instead of imposing a fine, the LTFRB will suspend the TNVS’ accreditation of a driver or operator who commits a violation.

  1. Very rare drivers of TNVS cancel bookings. It’s the riders that cancel most (if not all) of the time. So, why is LTFRB so incense over TNVS up to the point that they are going bananas for a slight transgression?

  2. When the unitle LTFRB chairman was showed a video of 10 taxi drivers who refused a passenger, he DID NOT DO anything. Worse, he made a sarcastic suggestion to exert the rights of the passengers. That’s fine really.

    • The fuck are you on about? This is a good thing. All cases will be investigated anyway. TNVS is the future anyway.

  3. There are a lot of grab drivers who cancel bookings. Haven’t experience that with uber though
