US moves for Total Ban on Huawei

It looks like Huawei is not getting any break this year as reports (Reuters, etc.) are coming in that the United States is working on a complete or total ban on sales to the Chinese company.

This time around, it would seem that domestic companies such as Qualcomm, Intel and AMD, among others, may also be banned from selling parts/components to Huawei.

According to Reuters, “U.S. officials are creating a new formal policy of denial for shipping items to Huawei that would include items below the 5G level, including 4G items, Wifi 6 and 7, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing and cloud items.”

Qualcomm earlier made a special arrangement with Huawei to supply them with 4G-only chipsets (like the Snapdragon 888 4G, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G) since the export of 5G tech to Huawei was banned by the US. (Read more: Canada bans ZTE, Huawei 5G equipment)

Now, with 4G also being considered on the plate, this could completely wipe out any possibility of Huawei getting any Qualcomm chips. For WiFi 6 and 7, this could also mean no Intel chips. If we also include cloud items, that could also imply the Microsoft operating system?

If this happens, that could end any future plans for Huawei to continue doing business in the smartphone, tablet and laptop market.
