One of the new products AMD has unveiled at CES 2023 is the laptop APU Ryzen 7040 Series that runs on 4nm process with dedicated “XDNA” AI engine.

The new processors combine up to eight cores, 16 thread CPU based on Zen 4 core architecture, together with RDNA3 on-chip graphics. The Ryzen 7040 Series introduces the industry’s first x86 processor with AI on-chip. Dubbed as ‘Ryzen AI’ based on its new XDNA architecture that provides four concurrent AI streams to benefit multitasking AI-accelerated tasks. For instance, live video processing with portrait blur already.
AMD claims that the new processors can deliver up to 30 hours battery life and ‘significantly faster than both x86 competition’.

The Ryzen 7040 Series comes in three models targeting 35-45W TDP. That includes the top-of-line Ryzen 9 7940HS (8 core/16 thread) with 4.00 GHz base clock speed and up to 5.20 GHz boost. Next is the Ryzen 7 7840HS (8 core/16 thread) at 3.80 GHz base and 5.10 GHz boost. Both of these have 40MB total cache. Lastly, the Ryzen 5 7640HS (6-core/12-thread), with 4.30 GHz base, 5.00 GHz boost, and 38MB total cache.
The first laptops running these processors begin shipping in March 2023, according to AMD.
