AMD launches Radeon R9 285, priced at $249
In line with the celebration of its “30 years of Gaming and Graphics”, AMD has announced the latest addition to its R9 200 Series portfolio, the Radeon R9 285, which is touted to replace the R9 280 as the least expensive of the three Radeon R9 GPUs.
Looking at its specs sheet, the new Radeon R9 285 does have some advantage over the R9 280 like higher memory frequency and significantly lower TDP. However, there are also some areas where the R9 285 lags behind its predecessor; it’s got lower VRAM and a narrower Bus Width.
AMD Radeon R9 285 specs:
Stream Processors: 1792
Compute Performance: 3.29 TFLOPS
Engine Clock: up to 918MHz
VRAM: 2GB DDR5
Memory Clock: 5.5GHz GDDR5
Memory Bus Width: 256-bit
DirectX 12 support
AMD TrueAudio Technology
Power Connectors: 2x 6-pin
The new AMD Radeon R9 285 will hit the shelves starting on September 2 and will be retailed for USD249.
