RIM drops 64GB BlackBerry Playbook to $299

Always wanted me to get the BlackBerry PlayBook but have not had the chance to get a good deal. There’s been some limited promos in the US and my friend there wanted to wait ’til it drops to $199. Well, it looks like the BlackBerry Store is now doing a $299 sale on all models of the PlayBook.

What’s weird though is that it’s $299 on all the models, from the 16GB to the 64GB.

With BB PlayBook OS 2.0 coming out this quarter and the Android Market port that comes with it, the 64GB Playbook seems like a steal.

I think this price drop might just be temporary (fine print says it will be only until February 4) or it is possible they will be announcing the 2nd generation PlayBook and wanted to rid of all the remaining inventories. Don’t think they’ll do a $99 tablet just like what HP did.

  1. Hmm, it maybe quite a steal for the upper variants. RIM should have dropped the 16GB price to around $150.

  2. they might not drop it below $199 since those who purchased tablet during the sale might complain like myself.. haha was able to buy 1 just waiting for it to arrive.. well for those who haven’t got the chance before, here it is.. it really is a still especially for the $299 64GB considering you get Android Market :D

    • paanO mg Order sa US,. i think Amazon will not deliver some tech gadgets outside US soil,.

  3. Better grab the 64gb now lol

“The prices for 16, 32 and 64GB models were slashed to $199, $249 and $399 respectively in the US” saw this at gsmarena. They had a year end sale in the US and other countries had the same too.

They are extending it for another week.

“RIM has now announced that they will be extending the offer for another week. The prices will remain the same as before, that is INR 13,490 ($252) for the 16GB model, INR 15,990 ($299) for the 32GB model and INR 24,490 ($458) for the 64GB model”

So that $299 64gb is quite a steal already IMO

    • The promo begins today Jan 13 to feb 4 . I’ll better get 299 for 64 gb.

    • ^ this contributed a lot to the discussion. Thank you for the input, bbstore!

  4. Is this typo error?. You’re right, this is weird.

  5. Totoo ba ito? Bibile na kase ako mamaya ng 16gb na, 9500 pesos.

Guys ano ba ok sa kenm 16gb (P9,500), 32gb (P13t) or 64 gb (P19t). Gagamitin ko sya sa primarily sa internet surfing at secondary na ang storing and viewing my favorites only own video clips, pictures at music collection.

    Salamat.

    • where are you getting your units at this prices, sir?

    • At the official RIM website in the US.

    • Hi JPM, sa middle east, kaso hanggang huwebes na lang offer nila. Hintay ako huwebes, baka bumaba din online store dito kagaya nang sa US.

Ok ba 16gb lang considering non-expandable ito dahil walang card slot?

    • those are us prices converted to pesos alright. the question is, panu nya bibilhin sa ganyang presyo when the shopblackberry US site only delivers to US addresses and overseas territories? kasi kung pwede magpaship dito sa pilipinas, edi kumuha na ako. unless meron kang pagkukunan locally, isahre mo naman yan. even the online stores (widgetcity, kimstore, ebuystore) do not sell the pb units at this price.

  6. Seems like I made the switch to Samsung Galaxy Note too early. =(

    Or then again…. =)

    • The Playbook’s support for Android Apps is buggy anyway since it’s really just a virtualization. You made the right choice, good sir. Can’t wait to get my own Note :)

  8. open up na yuga’s used for reviews gadget store, tapos auction style :)

  9. So, you got one here in the phils or you ordered one from the USA? Getting one here from the USA is worse than pulling teeth without Novocain. Who will deliver it, Phils Post? HAHAHAHA .. birthday cards took 2 months to arrive to the house. Lazy postal worker. I guess he figured there was no cash in the card, so might as well deliver it. THIEF!

How about Fed Stoopid? They won’t really deliver. They make you go to the airport to pick up anything you paid for delivery. PATHETIC LAZY LOCALS. They make you pay for the customs forms. They make you wait while some stoopid dip shit sits in his filthy office reading his stoopid local news. Then they try to hit you up for a storage fee. ASSHOLE LOCALS PIGS!

    • Cool lang. You can send it cheaply by posts but blame it to the over-taxation of Customs.

    • omg what a troll & zealots you are.EMS in post office 1 week boom arrived na jan sa Pinas.Kulang yta ng anghang yang kinakain mong Kimchi kaya brainless ka sumagot.Try mo kaya ang kinakain kong kimchi dito sa Korea.Sikya

  10. got mine for Php9,100 (converted to peso) 16GB here in middle east. :)

    • do you have anybody coming home soon here in the Philippines? Buy me one there and send it here just put a fair markup. ;D

  11. Sale in Dubai since yesterday, ubusan nga daw eh, my sister bought one for me, price is Php9K+ when converted to peso. :)

  12. i am selling my other 16gb playbook with case
..shoot me an email @ chat****@****.***..i am telling you guys this gadget is powerhouse..

  13. don’t forget that version 2 of its os will be coming soon this February. hopefully RIM will continue and update this tablet, and be back in competition with android and iOS.

  14. I decided to try this playbook and it is great, true multi-tasking and a breath of fresh air over android and iOS. Gaming is great also. I’m hoping new features and android compatibility in it’s upcoming OS 2 this feb.
