Weighing in at 2.89lbs, the Samsung 9 Series barely bested the Macbook Air 13.3 at 2.9lbs. And the specs are pretty impressive too.
Local reps of Samsung have actually told us about this upcoming unit back in December, claiming it will be thinner the the Mac Air so I’m not that very surprised to see this announcement.
Samsung 9 Series
13.3″ display at 1366×768
Intel Core i5 Processor 2537M @ 1.40 GHz (Turbo Boost up to 2.3 GHz)
Intel HD GT2 Integrated Graphics
4GB DDR3 RAM
128GB Solid State Drive (SSD)
Windows 7 Home Premium/Professional (64 bit)
WiFi 802.11b/g/n
WiMax
USB 3.0
Bluetooth 3.0
3 watt (1.5watt x 2) stereo speakers & 1.5watt sub-woofer
Lithium Polymer, up to 6.5 hours
The body is also made up aluminum too and comes with some curvy designs. Looks pretty interesting though I’m really hoping the 9 Series also comes in an 11.6″ display.
Coming out next month for a suggested retail price of $1,599PHP 93,838INR 135,515EUR 1,523CNY 11,638, the Samsung 9 Series. At little steep but the high-end 13.3″ Macbook Air is also the at the same price.

hayssttt… I know USB na uso ngayon, pero no matter how powerful a notebook is, pag walang DVD I feel bad. Parang netbook kasi ang dating. hmmmm…. (sorry, weird lang talaga hehe)

Mac App Store offering software for Windows!!!

I saw this a few days ago na may nag compete sa macbook air, but kung papipiliin ako maybe apple nalang ako, because I haven’t used an apple product yet for long hours, touches lang. Para bago naman. .common na windows 7 sa mga computer shops e.hehe. . .
Anyway, how does it feel sending or copying by the latest Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 3.0

Nice to see new models early in 2011, But affordability is still the factor. Maganda nga costly naman. hehehe Timeline X nalang bilhin ko with a little bit more of specs. manipis at magaan din..

I think it’ll be cheaper if they are going to equip this notebook with AMD’s Fusion APU (A processor which combines both CPU and GPU into one). AMD Fusion APU can even beat the performance and endurance of an ultraportable/ULV notebooks at a low price.
The First laptop that’s equipped with AMD Fusion APU is the HP Pavillion DM1. I’m so impressed with AMD’s APU because it can beat the “Intel Atom+NVIDIA Ion” combo in a lower price and power consumption.
@yuga
I hope you’ll post something about AMD’s APU here because it’ll deliver excellent performance at a low price for future laptops.

Masarap mag-transfer ng files thru USB 3.0 kasi mataas yung transfer rates nya…up to 4.8 Gbps!
NemOry says:
@ubreover totoo ba? As in 4.8 GIGABYTES PER SECOND?or GIAGABITS?HEHE. .Ung USB 2.0 ba anu ung speed?hehe. .ganda pla kung ganun kabilis.

I guess the body is not aluminum. Samsung is claiming that it’s 2x tougher than aluminum.

@Marcus, you should be well-aware that a DVD is practically useless on ultraportables these days. I for one reformat, back up PC’s and laptops with a USB stick. The power draw and the bulkiness these drives brings is simply inexcusable. People on the go barely find DVD’s as of much use. Tangeena mo talaga.

The thing is, even with an ultraportable you CAN include a DVD drive and still use full-power processors.
Case in point: the Toshiba Portege R705.
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Portégé-R705-P41-TruBrite-13-3-Inch/dp/B0041O425K/ref=pd_ts_e_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
It costs half as much as that Samsung, but it has a 2.53ghz Core i5 processor and a DVD drive, and it’s only 0.3 pound heavier.
www.buyingmobiles.com says:
Nice and very stylish . i must own it as soon as possible in India . How can I own it?.
=========
Maling Akala says:
Don’t bother with the R705. My sister owns it and the attested eight hours of battery life can only be attained when it’s idle for eight hours. Mild computing tasks performed on that laptop will bring it down to three to four hours.
If you want a REAL ultraportable, stick with ASUS’ U series and you won’t be dismayed.
FYI: Asus was once the manufacturer of Apple laptops, so never doubt the quality.
@Marcus – bobo mo talaga.
rex dGrey says:
wow, thats good…may kakompetensya bad nga lang coz I don’t think I can afford any…. then again why do I need one in the 1st place.
Raypin says:
this isn’t a netbook….the Corei5, USB 3.0, 6.5 battery life etc. provides it with more muscle……unlike the pretty anorexic MacBook Air and the Dell Adamo XPS (with I both own because I like anorexics :)). As for the optical drive…..it’s not a deal-breaker anymore. Overall, I like this Sammie! Only thing that would make this better……make this sexy-looking.
someone says:
+1 for the ODD-less comment. If this laptop is meant to be used mostly on battery mode, then having a ODD will decrease the battery performance. I only use cds when i have to get files from a backup disc. I would just get a portable disc drive if ever i’m going to buy one of these.
Marcus says:
uuuhhhhh duh… as if… Earth to Mars @Malingakala and Marcusopot, hello?!..you’re breaking up, hello?!!.. I am never rude to people posting negative comments (read: only now) How I’d wish people here weren’t that dumb. I know flashdisk and optical drives dear. I know you can back files and even boot BIOS with it. I know you can just copy everything from a dvd to the flash and keep that .exe file as installer for further use should you need to reformat or the file gets corrupted.
What I don’t know is why the fuck did you morons think I was stupid (like you 2) by not knowing all these things? Point is, yes you can buy an external optical drive for your cds but isn’t that a hassle that you have to bring it along just so it’ll come handy should you need to install, copy or watch something on DVD? Now tell me, is there a program out on the market that comes in a flashdisk (say Microsoft Office) aside from anti-virus programs (FYI Norton and Kaspersky already have netbook flashdisk installers limited to single-user) Wala pa di ba? So which seems practical, a notebook with DVD drive or a notebook that needs a separate optical drive? I hope I made my point clear.
Now if it still sounds vague to both of you, go get a bluray disk or a TB external disk and stick it to your ass to add more storage capacity for brain processing (I believe yours is not in the head but down low) Good day guys..
gg says:
@marcus
yes I know ur point. maski ako minsan the first thing I check when looking for a laptop is a dvd drive. hassle din ang usb plug eh. pero I think this laptop is under ULTRAPORTABLE category. so it has enough computing powers, but meant to be light and portable as much as possible. pero kung ang trip mo eh tipong dekstop replacement, sympre go for the one with DVD.
some people are just plain rude here. to say DVD is unnecessary is an understatement. magkakaiba tayo ng preference at needs. kung d na kailangan ng dvd bakit mostly ng model ngayon may dvd pa? haha.. again software distribution through USB will never replace the CD’s. ang mahal kaya ng production.
uberover says:
i agree that dvd isn’t much of a necessity in ultraportable laptops. optical media has a long history itself, the only purpose of optical media nowadays is for installing operating system, small backups and recovery discs. at first i thought that i need the dvd drive on my laptop but ever since digital downloads, usb drives and cloud existed, i think i don’t need my dvd drive on my laptop because it simply makes my laptop go at lower battery life.
optical drive is the slowest part of a computer that’s why many people does not prefer to put their files on it. aside from being slow, optical media are more susceptible to physical damage which may lead to data loss.
@Nem0ry
naka-depende rin sa usb drive yung transfer speeds. if you want to attain high speeds on a usb 3.0 port, make sure to use high quality drives. low quality usb drives usually suffer from lower transfer rates.

Isn’t it that the MAC OS of a MacBook Air is installed in a USB Flash Drive and not in a CD/DVD.
And is it a fact that there are already programs that is distributed / sold online, disregarding any physical aspect. Examples are Stream games and Mac Apps. Oh yes, also Windows programs through torrent.
Just Saying.

@Nem0ry
kapag “drives” (like usb drives, optical drives, hard drives), hardware…
kapag “drivers” software…
yeah, i know it’s a bit confusing when you first hear it but once you’ll get a grip on it, you’ll find yourself discovering and learning more things.
i-explore mo lang yung computer mo, marami kang matutunan…ganyan rin ako nung first time ko magkaroon ng pc, marami akong tanong
just have fun exploring your computer and you’ll learn things by yourself…goodluck!

i have a sony vaio f series laptop with intel core i7 & blueray disc player among its other strong features. it’s also a gaming pc. it’s quite heavy though and i do move around with it a lot.
this new samsung 9 series caught my eye.
i seldom use my laptop to see movies using dvds nowadays. i use the other digital formats available.and i realized i don’t play games also as much as i did years ago. so i think this samsung is suitable for me. i just hope it has better battery life coz my vaio has only 2 – 3 hours in it.
and this samsung is made from Duralumin not aluminum so it’s sturdy especially if you’re always on the go. Twice as durable as aluminum and it weighs just a little more than a kilo or under 3 lbs. as they say in their ad.
so i can say one buys according to his needs mostly, and at his affordable price of course.
