I’m a little on the fence about labeling these laptops as netbooks but older models of the same form factor have been named as such. Only this time, they’re all powered by AMD Fusion APU and coming from various manufacturers such as HP, Lenovo, Asus and Acer.
I think there are many more in the line-up but these are the ones that immediately got my attention.
HP Pavilion DM1
11.6″ @ 1366×768 display
AMD E-350 Dual-Core 1.6GHz
Radeon HD 6310 GPU

Asus Eee PC 1215B

AMD E-350 Dual-Core 1.6GHz
Radeon HD 6310 GPU
4GB RAM
128GB SDD
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
The E-350 Dual-Core 1.6GHz has a power consumption of just 18watts (TDP) and that already includes the GPU. It’s a very close match to the ULV Core i3 with Intel HD.
Basic benchmarks like Windows Experience Index gives the CPU a 3.7 rating but the gaming graphics performance got a 5.6 rating which is pretty good already.

Here comes the fruit of the AMD-ATI Fusion. Seems like the marriage of the two is getting better and it’s also getting me excited. Hopefully, the price of the MSI U270 will be as affordable as the U230 that I currently have.
lolipown says:
Now if only AMD could work on power management, they would be the perfect portable chipset.
NemOry says:
yan pala ang AMD FUSION? ang sagad nila sa pag imbento ng APU na yan. .accelerated processing unit tama ba?hehe
Willy Yu says:
meron na available in the market? can’t wait to get 1, less than 18k daw. better than a tablet
Edward says:
Yung Acer 522 and 18k. yung emachines 644 ang 20k.

Edward says:
EDIT: “ang” not and
Pusang Kulog says:
Isn’t Asus Eee 1215B supposed to be a 12″ incher model?
Fleeb says:
@Nemory, Fusion was the reason why AMD bought ATi. People waited for this fruit for years now. Currently, the GPU and CPU are just on the same die.
Here is the roadmap AMD presented in 2007.

csseyah says:
Hazyt! lalo akong naguguluhan kung tablet o itong mga netbook spec na lang ang kukunin ko… kung pwede nga lang both bilhin bakit hindi :p hehehehee
uberover says:
With AMD Fusion APU, there will be no more reason to call a small pc as a “netbook”. We shall call them now as “ultraportables”. These computers will mark the start of “ultraportable computing”. Hail AMD for creating such wonder!!!
@fleeb
You are totally right about what you said in AMD’s reason for buying ATI! This is the reason why AMD bought ATI…to build a processor that’s beyond imagination of Intel’s engineers; small, fast, and power efficient processor the AMD Fusion APU.
uberover says:
@lolipown
AMD Fusion APU’s power consumption can match an ULV Intel processor and it can even go close to an Intel Atom. Performance wise, AMD Fusion APUs are totally an overkill and it beats both ULV and Atom processors.
uberover says:
Here’s the review of HP Pavilion dm1 from laptopmag.com:
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/hp-pavilion-dm1.aspx
Now, that’s a proof that AMD Fusion APUs are not just faster, they also consume less power compared to the others.
siebenbur says:
R.I.P. to Intel Atom.
@uberover
wow, you really provided a proof that AMD Fusion APUs are better! Nice job! Now i’m planning to buy and AMD netbook instead of an Intel Atom. Poor Intel, they have just lost one customer because of AMD’s Fusion APU.
lolipown says:
@uberover
There’s no question that the APU beats the Atom in terms of RAW computation power. Sure, 6.5 hrs is nothing to sneeze at, the Atom tops at what now? 10? 12?
Not trying to rain on your parade or anything but I just want to point out that the APU in it’s current iteraton is still just v 1.0. And yes, it will get better.
uberover says:
I was comparing the AMD Fusion with the dual-core Intel Atom, not the single-core.
Anyway, i agree on what you have said that AMD Fusion will improve.
lolipown says:
ah lol, and I was pointing out the GPU power draw (AMD vs Intel IGP).
Still we are in accord :)
uberover says:
Okay, you pointed a comparison between AMD and Intel IGP.
Nice point anyway :)
Ed says:
Will wait for A-series.
rocketlog says:
I’ll probably wait for the next generation of this lineup.. As hyped as I am right now, I’ve also learned that those who adopt tech stuff ahead of the rest usually suffer from disappointments as soon as the better-optimized 2nd generation start popping out.. ^_^ G1, anyone?
killbill says:
@rocketlog
i’m pretty sure that there’ll be no disappointments here in the first iteration of AMD Fusion APUs. AMD made this for years so that it is sure that early adopters will face no problems.

I’m not sure if you’ve seen the Acer Aspire Timeline X but it’s a much better contender in terms of ultraportable laptops. Why Acer hasn’t released it here, I’ll never know.
