Even the folks from Canon Philippines were surprised with the announcement of the company’s new mirror-less camera, the Canon EOS M.
In a short meeting this afternoon, we talked to someone from Canon PH about the rumored EOS M mirrorless camera when it was revealed that the official announcement was today (we reported about the rumor a couple of days ago).
Canon EOS M specs:
18-megapixel CMOS sensor
APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm)
Digic 5 processor
ISO 100 to 12800 (25600 with boost)
1/4000 sec to 60s shutter speed
4.3 fps continuous shoot
Full HD 1080p video recording @ 30fps
HD 720 video @ 60fps
1.6x focal length multiplier
Canon EF-M mount
31-point autofocus system
Movie Servo AF
3-inch Clear View II TFT LCD display
SD/SDHC/SDXC card
The EOS M comes with a touchscreen LCD, an optional (external) mini-flash, Speedlite 90EX.
The EOS-M mount is also compatible with existing Canon EOS EF and EF-S lenses so if you already own a Canon dSLR, this won’t be a problem.
The Canon EOS-M will retail for $800 with the 22mm kit lens and $850 with the 18-55m m kit lens. At these price points, the EOS-M will definitely eat into the market of the EOS 1100D and even the Canon G-series. It will be available in silver, white, black and red.
The local office will release the EOS-M in the Philippines sometime in September.
at last canon finally joined the mirrorless bandwagon. can’t wait to buy one! you need a mount adapter to mount ef, efs lenses which will sell for $200. just hope that this will be better than the mirrorless made by the other major brand which turned out to be a mediocre! hehehe!
Hi, just curious, based on dpreview.com:
“It’s based around a new ‘EF-M’ lens mount, and two matched lenses will be available at launch: the EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM zoom, and the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM ‘pancake’ prime. But it’s still very much part of the EOS system, and all of the company’s existing EF and EF-S SLR lenses can be used via the co-announced ‘Mount adapter EF-EOS M’.”
You mentioned that EF/EF-S lenses are compatible but failed to say that it will need an adapter to mount them.
Anyway, this is exciting. I may consider buying this, if I have money and it’s not priced too high! :D
We mentioned in the specs list above that it uses an EF-M mount.
