Along with the new PowerShot cameras, Canon also announced the new addition to their telephoto zoom lineup, the EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS STM lens.

Apart from the inclusion of a Stepping Motor (STM), the only other difference that this new lens has over its predecessor is the addition of a High-Quality Ultra-low Dispersion and Super Spectra Coating glass which handles CA (Chromatic Aberrations) and lessens ghosting and flare. Oh and the lens also has a fix minimum focusing distance of 0.85m (2.78 feet) throughout its zoom range, making it possible to get a little closer to the subject.

The new Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS STM will hit the shelves on the latter part of September and will have a USD545price tag.

I agree, considering that its Nikon counterpart (Nikkor AF-S DX VR 55-200mm f/4-5.6 G IF ED)only cost half of what Canon is asking for this new lens.
