PH, Japan team up to launch AI-powered disaster response system

Listen to article

The Philippine government has partnered with Japan to roll out Spectee Pro, an AI-powered disaster monitoring platform aimed at boosting emergency response across the country.

Developed by a Japanese tech firm, Spectee Pro uses AI to scan social media and online sources in real time, helping local agencies detect and respond to disasters faster. The platform was tailored for Philippine use through a joint effort by the DICT and JICA, and has undergone testing with select LGUs and national agencies.

Officials conducted training sessions to ensure the system performs well in real emergencies. This initiative falls under JICA’s broader goal to support sustainable development via private-sector tech partnerships.

The Philippines is among the world’s most disaster-prone nations, topping the 2024 World Risk Report. From 2010 to 2019 alone, natural disasters caused ₱463 billion in damages, underscoring the need for smarter, faster response tools.
