#accenture layoffs

I got a call last night from a media researcher (for an investigative TV program) asking me about my take on the recent series of layoffs in the local BPO sector. After a series of calls and text messages, the program supervisor called me asking to verify an alleged layoff at Accenture Manila that very day. A call to my source from the inside verified the layoffs. The reason behind was that Accenture Manila has become overcrowded with project developers and consultants with no assignments or have prior projects that have been canceled or indefinitely put on hold. This development may not be a big surprise as Accenture (like many other multinational companies in the country) has been doing some belt-tightening measures since last year. These layoffs coincide with increasing regulatory pressure on tech giants in Malaysia due to a reported surge of malicious content on social media earlier this year. Accenture has agreed to acquire Ookla for USD 1.2 ‌billion in cash. "By acquiring Ookla, we will help our clients across business and government scale AI safely and build the trusted data foundations they need to deliver the reliable, seamless connectivity that creates value."
