Pasig Mega Market now has satellite-powered internet to support cashless payments under the Paleng-QR Ph Plus program of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Department of Information and Communications Technology. It is designed to make QR-based payments more stable and easier to use, especially in busy market areas where connection issues often happen. The rollout is part of the Paleng-QR Ph Plus program, a joint effort of BSP and DICT to promote the use of QR Ph, the country’s standard system for cashless payments. The discounted fare matrix, implemented by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), applies to single-journey tickets, stored-value cards, and cashless payments starting March 23. The integration builds on GCash’s existing rollout in MRT-3, where cashless payment options have been available since July last year. By enabling access to discounted fares through digital payments, the initiative aims to make daily commuting more affordable while improving convenience for passengers. The move also supports broader efforts to promote cashless transactions in public transport systems. This milestone was announced on February 19 by the digital bank and the global payments company, Visa.
