Last Friday, internet traffic company, Dyn, experienced not one, but two DDoS attack on its DNS servers resulting to numerous sites worldwide shutting down. Dyn is a company that manages website domains and routes internet traffic and with the DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack, affected the aforementioned domains. A DDoS attack is the act of flooding a website with heavy traffic so that it overloads and interrupts the flow of its normal service. I thought this was old news until someone told me they've been a target of a DDOS attack only recently. Within a week of that initial contact, the website was hammered with a DDOS attack. The engineers at the Makati Data Center hosting the site were quick to deploy preventive measures to block the DDOS which lasted for days in intervals or 15 to 20 minutes between attacks.
