We've gotten confirmation that the EDSA Free WiFi Project by the DICT is launching this June 12 to coincide with the celebration of the National Independence Day. According to our source, the WiFi network will be available to the entire 24-kilometer stretch of EDSA. Apparently, the DICT has already started rolling out the fiber network for their EDSA Free WiFi project (Just noticed this last night as I was driving along EDSA). An engineering crew has been seen installing cables along EDSA with signages that indicate EDSA Free WiFi (DICT). This project could be part of the DICT's mandate to provide Free WiFi Service in Public Places which has earmarked Php1.8 billion for 2017. Commuters along EDSA now have free WiFi at 17 busway stations, thanks to a joint initiative by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr). Globe AT HOME is giving eligible customers free internet speed boosts of up to 1Gbps along with free WiFi 6 modem upgrades to help improve home connectivity for work, school, and entertainment. Subscribers whose current modem cannot support the upgraded speeds may also upgrade to a WiFi 6 modem for free, but with a required 24-month relock period.
