Converge has just announced that its fiber network has now reached over 500,000 kilometers. In a report to the NTC, Converge has said that it has laid down over 523,000 kilometers of fiber nationwide, more than double from last year where they rolled out 260,000 kilometers of total fiber assets. The current fiber cable kilometers of the company consists of 403,740 kilometers of last-mile network ando ver 119,000 kilometers of fiber backbone which include its domestic subsea cable system. “Converge has also deployed the latest optical technologies in its network, making it the most technologically advanced,” Uy added. Converge was the first to deploy 400G data transmission capacity on its metro backbone which was further doubled to 800G, boosting the fiber network’s capacity to push huge amounts of data throughout the length of the cable, in anticipation of the use of next-generation, hyperscale capacity applications. As of March 2022, the network of Converge has passed more than 12 million Filipino homes. As the demand for high-speed broadband internet increases in the country, PLDT reinvigorates its fixed line services by powering it with fiber optic technologies. During a technical briefing on Wednesday, PLDT-Smart Technology Group Head Rolando Peña said that fiber optic technology allows the fixed line network to transmit voice, data, and video over the internet at much higher bandwidths, faster speeds, and better quality.
