The newly launched Mahalo Answers is just like Yahoo! In short, you get paid for the best answers you contribute. Google did this before with Google Answers before they closed shop. What Mahalo intends to do is encourage more participation and better quality content by offering the ability for those who seek answers to give tips to the best response. It's not going to be a requirement to give tips but if you want faster and better results for you answers, a tip would easily help do that.
