The device is not exactly for consumer use but rather built to work with Google's high-end VR creation platform -- Jump. Google provided the schematics and what not allowing hardware makers and filmmakers to fill up its Daydream VR platform. During the Google I/O conference last May, the search giant launched its virtual reality platform called Jump, along with a then unnamed prototype from GoPro which featured 16 Hero4 Black cameras all strapped on a fancy panoramic contraption. Today, Google and GoPro officially announce that said camera rig. Because of how these cameras are setup, Odyssey can capture immersive 360-degree videos which are then stitched together by what Google is calling the Jump Assembler to form a stereoscopic VR video. That is because both Google and GoPro have a say on who gets to purchase an Odyssey, and those who want one must sign up for the program. There was some sort of mass panic last night when Google was spewing a warning "this site may harm your computer" on all their search results. People search on Google were shocked and confused as if the search engine itself was hacked.
