Yi Technology has been producing quality GoPro competitors for quite some time but the next product to come from the Chinese company is a tool to create virtual reality experiences.
The Yi Halo is a 17-camera rig monster capable of shooting in 8K at 30 frames per second or 5.8K at a faster 60 frames per second. The device is not exactly for consumer use but rather built to work with Google’s high-end VR creation platform — Jump.
The platform will allow filmmakers to capture immersive content for VR. Google provided the schematics and what not allowing hardware makers and filmmakers to fill up its Daydream VR platform. GoPro first released their rig for the platform, the Odyssey, using 16 GoPro cameras.
The Yi Halo will be available for $16,999 or about Php847,000.
